SPORTS TEAMS
Most of St. Vincent’s sports teams are run through the PARA league, which plays other Catholic Schools in the Salt Lake City Area.
SOCCER: Soccer is a fall and spring sport. Signups are normally in the spring prior to the next school year starting. If you are new to the area or new to the sport you can call the office 277-6702 to get a form. Most of the soccer teams are formed with students from St. Vincent’s, but in the event that there are not enough students to make up one team we sometimes merge with other teams in the same league. Your child can decide to play fall and spring or just one of the season’s if they participate in other sports
VOLLEYBALL: Volleyball is for 5th-8th graders and is a fall sport. It begins in September and runs 6 weeks. Teams are co-ed and are run through the PARA (Catholic) league. Volleyball has a championship tournament in early November that all teams participate in.
BASKETBALL: Basketball signups are at the end of October. Practice usually begins in November with the first games starting in the beginning of December. The season runs into February with a tournament at the end of the season.
BASEBALL: Baseball is a spring sport with signups in March. The season runs through the June. A tournament for all teams concludes the season in June.
FOOTBALL / LACROSSE: St. Vincent’s does not have an organized football team but kids who are interested can get in a league through Judge Memorial or Juan Diego Catholic High Schools.
SOFTBALL: Girls softball signups are normally in February or March and are run though the Wasatch Front League. |
EXTRA CURRICULAR ACTIVITIES
St. Vincent’s offers a wide variety of activities for your student to participate in.
BAND: Students who want to participate in band are welcome. At the beginning of each school year there is a clinic, which introduces students to different instruments. Students in Band practice during their music period two days a week. The Band performs throughout the school year at various concerts and activities the school may have.
LEARN TO GOLF: NEW THIS YEAR. One after school activity students can participate in is a learn to golf program. This will be held Wednesday’s September 3rd through October 8th and will take place on the school lower fields at 3:30 p.m. The cost is $95 for these 6 lessons.
SKI/SNOWBOARD PROGRAM: The after ski program runs during the winter months and is run through the Salt Lake County Parks and Recreation: Holladay Lions Center. Students (3rd through 8th) who want to ski or snowboard are picked up on Friday afternoons (our ½ days) and taken to one of the local ski resorts for lessons. This is a great way for your student to learn how to ski or enjoy getting some physical activity on Friday afternoons. This program usually has sign ups in November and runs for 6 – 8 weeks in December and January.
MISSOULA CHILDRENS THEATRE: Each year our school brings the Missoula Children’s Theatre to our school to introduce them to the art of acting. This is open for students K – 8th.
For one week two instructors work with our kids after school to teach them their lines, parts and songs. At the end of the week the students perform on Saturday at 3:00 and 7:00 p.m. For the 2008/2009 school year, Missoula will be at our school March 30th through April 4th. The production this year is LITTLE MERMAID. Tryouts will be on March 30th at 3:30 in the school gym and the performances will be on April 4th at 3:00 and 7:00 p.m. All students are encouraged to tryout (between 55-60 parts). No acting experience is required. Students must clear their schedule for the whole week of practice. |
